This page is for mathematicians — especially those working in category theory, domain theory, quantum logic, causal set theory, categorical quantum mechanics, discrete geometry, or the foundations of probability. If you want to know whether there is a theorem here worth looking at before committing to read the rest of the site, this is the right entry point. The framework exists in full on the other domain pages and in the derivation tree; here we extract the mathematical spine.

The three axioms are stated below in their mathematical form. The framework’s novelty is not any single one of them — it is that a remarkably large fraction of physics can be derived from them alone, using only standard mathematical tools (measure theory, category theory, Lie theory, domain theory, analysis on manifolds). Everything else on this page is a consequence of those three axioms, a named structural postulate, or an open problem.

The Three Axioms

Axiom 1 (Coherence Conservation). There exists a coherence space (H,A,C)(\mathcal{H}, \mathcal{A}, \mathcal{C}) where H\mathcal{H} is a set, A\mathcal{A} is a σ\sigma-algebra on H\mathcal{H}, and C:AR0\mathcal{C}: \mathcal{A} \to \mathbb{R}_{\geq 0} is a subadditive measure satisfying strong subadditivity (condition C5, analogous to the Lieb–Ruskai axiom for quantum entropy). C\mathcal{C} is conserved on Cauchy slices of a dependency DAG G\mathcal{G}.

Axiom 2 (Observer Definition). An observer is a triple O=(Σ,I,B)\mathcal{O} = (\Sigma, I, \mathcal{B}) where ΣA\Sigma \in \mathcal{A} is a state space, II is a conserved invariant under a non-trivial symmetry group GAut(H)ΣG \subseteq \mathrm{Aut}(\mathcal{H})|_\Sigma, and B\mathcal{B} partitions Aut(H)Σ\mathrm{Aut}(\mathcal{H})|_\Sigma into identity-preserving and identity-threatening transformations. Observers form a category Obs\mathbf{Obs} with morphisms that are structure-preserving maps respecting II and GG.

Axiom 3 (Loop Closure). The internal dynamics of each observer close into a periodic orbit — formally, a U(1)U(1)-structured trajectory with period TT, satisfying a Lyapunov stability condition and generating a Noether conjugate pair (ϕ,E)(\phi, E) where ϕS1\phi \in S^1 is the phase and EE is its conjugate energy.

Theorem 4.1 (Coherence uniqueness, formerly a postulate). The unique continuous functional on quantum states satisfying U(1)U(1) invariance, channel additivity, composition-compatibility under tensor products, and non-triviality is F(ψ)=ψψF(\psi) = \langle \psi | \psi \rangle.Coherence as Physical Primitive

This theorem, together with a Lieb–Ruskai-style uniqueness argument on the entropy-like coherence functional, addresses the most common objection to the framework — that “coherence” is under-defined. Under the stated conditions, it is not.

Six Theorems That Illustrate the Style

The framework has 26 derivations whose central claims are independent of all remaining structural postulates, against 44 at the “rigorous given auxiliary postulates” tier (see Postulate Audit below). Out of the 26, these six are the ones most likely to interest a mathematician on first encounter.

1. Born Rule from a Cauchy Multiplicative Equation

Theorem. Any probability assignment P:H[0,1]P: \mathcal{H} \to [0,1] on the state space of a U(1)U(1)-structured observer satisfying normalization, phase covariance, and composition under sequential measurement is uniquely determined to be P(k)=kψ2P(k) = |\langle k | \psi \rangle|^2.

The constraint chain reduces to a Cauchy multiplicative functional equation f(rs)=f(r)f(s)f(rs) = f(r) f(s) whose continuous positive solutions are the power family f(r)=rαf(r) = r^\alpha. The composition constraint (amplitudes compose as path sums over the interaction graph) forces α=1\alpha = 1. Gleason’s theorem gives an independent route; this one is constructive and does not require dimension 3\geq 3.

2. Three Fermion Generations from dimso(3)=3\dim \mathfrak{so}(3) = 3

Theorem. The number of fermion generations equals the number of independent generators of SO(3)SO(3), which is three. Fermions are observer loops carrying winding classes in the rotation group of the internal configuration space; the strong-subadditivity condition C5, applied to the internal winding-direction space, forces at least three independent sectors, and dimso(3)=3\dim \mathfrak{so}(3) = 3 caps the count at three.

The generation-axis correspondence was promoted from structural postulate to theorem in 2026. CP violation (the Kobayashi–Maskawa mechanism) and the explicit prediction of no fourth generation follow from the three-generation algebra in the usual way. The novelty is that the count is a theorem about the internal configuration space, not a phenomenological input.

3. Division Algebra Selection via Hurwitz

Theorem. The composition law at each bootstrap level — the map taking a pair of observers to the observer generated by their interaction’s conserved quantity — forces the internal algebra to be a normed composition algebra. Unit elements are isometries because coherence is conserved, which forces the composition identity xy=xy\|xy\| = \|x\|\|y\|. By Hurwitz’s theorem (1898), the admissible algebras are R,C,H,O\mathbb{R}, \mathbb{C}, \mathbb{H}, \mathbb{O}.

The sequence terminates at O\mathbb{O} because the sedenions S\mathbb{S} contain zero divisors, which would allow coherence to vanish in violation of Axiom 1. The Standard Model gauge group factors through this chain. The cleanliness here is that “why Hurwitz at all?” gets a structural answer rather than being postulated.

4. Spin–Statistics via Laidlaw–DeWitt on Configuration Space

Theorem. Application of Axiom 3 (U(1)U(1) loop closure) to the configuration space of indistinguishable observers, together with the Laidlaw–DeWitt classification of quantum mechanics on multiply connected configuration spaces, forces the spin–statistics correspondence: half-integer spin with fermionic statistics, integer spin with bosonic statistics.

The Pauli exclusion principle follows as a corollary. This was one of the first results in the program to move from provisional to rigorous; the derivation uses the π1\pi_1 of configuration space (SnS_n for distinguishable, BnB_n for braided cases) without any additional assumption.

5. The Multiplicity Theorem: Network Topology Is Forced

Theorem. The strong-subadditivity condition C5 on pairs of observers is vacuous — it has no non-trivial content without a third party. Therefore any framework satisfying Axioms 1–3 requires at least three observers; the bootstrap propagates this into an infinite relational network; the network is necessarily boundaryless (either spatially infinite or finite-and-compact, e.g. S3S^3-like).

The proof is by contradiction: an observer at a boundary would either leak coherence (violating conservation) or face too few partners for C5 to be non-trivial locally. This is the result that makes the framework’s causal-graph substrate a theorem rather than a postulate — contrast with Wolfram Physics, where the hypergraph is chosen from a rule space.

6. Three Spatial Dimensions from Loop Stability

Theorem. The only Euclidean dimension in which closed orbits are generically stable under perturbation is three. In d=1d = 1 orbits are trivial; in d=2d = 2 bounded orbits exist but carry no linking; in d4d \geq 4 generic bounded orbits are unstable (Bertrand’s theorem fails, and the inverse-square law gives non-closing orbits). Therefore Axiom 3 (loop closure) is realized generically only in d=3d = 3.

This is a clean mathematical statement about the dimension of space. It connects to generation counting via the so(3)\mathfrak{so}(3) argument in Theorem 2 above.

The Postulate Audit

A persistent concern with any “derive-from-axioms” program is that the real work is being done by unnamed auxiliary assumptions. The framework addresses this with an explicit postulate audit. Of twenty historical structural postulates across the derivation tree, fifteen have been promoted to theorems and five remain irreducible. The five remaining postulates are:

Three of these have been tightened to isolate their genuinely irreducible content; area-scaling-s1 in particular has been reduced to the statement that the bootstrap fixed-point equation has a unique solution — if Conjectures 7.1 and 7.2 (below) are proved, this postulate becomes a theorem and the count drops to four.

Two Open Problems

These are the places where the framework has well-defined mathematical questions that it cannot currently answer from within, and where external progress would directly promote structural postulates to theorems.

Problem A: The Bootstrap Fixed-Point Conjecture

Conjecture 7.1 (existence). There exists a reflexive object U\mathcal{U} in the observer category Obs\mathbf{Obs} satisfying the reflexive domain equation

UR(U,U)\mathcal{U} \cong \mathcal{R}(\mathcal{U}, \mathcal{U})

where R\mathcal{R} is the bootstrap map (takes pairs of observers to the observer generated by their interaction’s conserved quantity).

Conjecture 7.2 (uniqueness). The fixed point is unique up to isomorphism in Obs\mathbf{Obs}, given the constraint C(U)=C0\mathcal{C}(\mathcal{U}) = C_0.

This is a reflexive domain equation in the sense of Dana Scott (1972). A proof requires three ingredients: (i) Scott-continuity of R\mathcal{R} (preservation of directed limits), (ii) an enrichment of Obs\mathbf{Obs} to a category where reflexive domain equations have solutions — e.g., continuous coherence spaces with continuous maps, (iii) a contraction or compactness argument, via Banach, Tarski, or Schauder.

What a proof would determine. If Conjectures 7.1–7.2 hold, C0C_0 is determined by the fixed-point equation (no longer a free parameter), area-scaling-s1 becomes a theorem, and via geometric realization the cosmological constant Λ\Lambda is fixed. The framework identifies this as the deepest open problem in the program.

Formal statement and proof strategy: The Bootstrap Mechanism

Problem B: The Geometry Functor G:ObsGeomG: \mathbf{Obs} \to \mathbf{Geom}

The framework has a partial construction that sends each observer to an effective Lorentzian geometry encoding its epistemic horizon, indexed by bootstrap level. Currently the construction is defined on objects but not fully on morphisms, and the full functor requires:

  1. Promoting the bootstrap map R\mathcal{R} to a functor on morphisms (naturality of the level-set construction).
  2. Establishing cross-level geometric consistency: the effective metric at bootstrap level nn should be compatible with level n+1n+1 under R\mathcal{R}.
  3. Showing that cross-level consistency constrains Λ\Lambda to a specific value at the fixed point.

This is close enough to the categorical side of Wolfram Physics’s GR-emergence work that tools developed for hypergraph-indexed metrics may be importable. Rovelli-style relational geometry and categorical quantum mechanics (Coecke et al.) also provide partial templates.

Bridges to Adjacent Programs

Sorkin–Bombelli–Dowker causal set theory. The derivation chain passes through a labelled causal set (C,,λ)(C, \prec, \lambda) with Planck-density elements and a Lorentzian manifold as continuum limit. CC is derived as the interaction record of the observer network, not postulated. Above the causal-graph layer, standard causal set results on dimension emergence, Lorentzian reconstruction, and horizon structure are directly applicable. → Causal Set Statistics

Wolfram Physics Project. Both frameworks exit into the same causal-graph layer, but from opposite directions: WPP starts with a hypergraph rewrite rule and derives physics as its limit; this framework starts with the observer and derives the causal graph as a theorem. The rule-selection problem is dissolved because there is no rule to select. Above the causal layer, WPP results on dimension emergence and causal-invariance-to-Lorentz-invariance are likely importable as independent corroboration.

Categorical quantum mechanics (Abramsky, Coecke, Heunen). The category Obs\mathbf{Obs} is not yet shown to be a compact closed or dagger category, but the Born rule theorem, the division algebra selection, and the relational-invariant construction for entanglement all land in a form compatible with categorical QM. A formal functor from Obs\mathbf{Obs} to a standard categorical-QM category would be a natural next step. → Entanglement from Relational Invariants

Dana Scott domain theory. The bootstrap fixed-point conjecture is a reflexive domain equation in Scott’s sense. Problem A above is essentially an invitation for a domain theorist to evaluate whether the observer category can be enriched to admit reflexive objects.

Fisher information geometry. The framework’s identification of coherence with the Fisher metric on probability space passes through the Čencov uniqueness theorem: under natural invariance conditions, the Fisher metric is the unique Riemannian metric on the probability simplex invariant under Markov morphisms. This yields the quantum action functional and Planck’s constant as rigorous theorems. → Fisher Information Metric, Action and Planck’s Constant

Falsifiable Prediction

The framework produces at least one quantitative prediction with a sharp discriminator: holographic noise with angular structure. A discrete causal substrate at the Planck scale induces an irreducible single-arm strain power spectral density Sh=αHP/cS_h = \alpha_H \ell_P / c in interferometers, with αH0.5\alpha_H \lesssim 0.5 from the Holometer constraint. The distinctive content is not the amplitude — which coincides with Hogan-type models — but the angular structure.

For two Michelson interferometers at relative orientation β\beta, the overlap reduction function is

Γ(β)=cosβ\Gamma(\beta) = \cos \beta

(derived from the causal-set statistics, not assumed). This predicts a cross-correlation ratio S12(0)/S12(45)=2S_{12}(0^\circ)/S_{12}(45^\circ) = \sqrt{2} and a null S12(90)=0S_{12}(90^\circ) = 0 between perpendicular co-located Michelsons. The experimental test requires a rotatable pair of co-located interferometers — a tractable instrument design. LIGO H–L is specifically a poor test because the detectors are near-perpendicular and separated, so Γ0\Gamma \approx 0.
